He is one of the few custom rod builders who has done the spiral wrap very well. I am at his booth right now at the Greensboro, NC fishin expo. I tried taking a picture but couldn't get a good lookin one.
Re: Spiral wrap guides (livetofish)
First guide should sit 3-5 degrees off center from the top of the rod. This allows the line to spool on your reel correctly. 4th guide up needs to be centered on the bottom of the rod. Guides 2 & 3 placed evenly between 1 & 4 to complete the spiral. If you fish right handed reels then spiral to the right, this will allow your reel to sit on the dck of your boat without stressing your guides. They make a wheel w/ degree markings on it that you can put on the blank if you want to get technical w/ placement. I've been eye balling it for years and I have never had any problems.
Re: Spiral wrap guides (livetofish)
There are several way to do a spiral wrap rod. The one mentioned above is designed after the revolver wrap by Rich Forhan and usually take 4 guides to get to the bottom of the rod. I have posted a few pictures of a simple bumper spiral wrap below. This wrap goes from the top of the rod to the bottom of the rod with just 3 guides. The 1st and 3rd guides are 180 degrees apart with a bumper guide between them to keep the line off the blank. Just about any custom builder will be able to help you out with one. The spiral wrapped rods have been around for a long time and many have tried them. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif

Re: Spiral wrap guides (LM Bass Angler)
LM is correct, my wrap is based off of or is the Revolver wrap that Rich designed. I've never tried the wrap any other way so I can't comment on which is the best, that said I have never had a reason to want to try anything else.
To give you some extra help I use double footed guides for the 1st 3 guides, from bottom up I sue a 12j, 10j, 8j,. The 4th I use a bridge guide, usually a 8. From there I may use 1 single foot 7 and then 6's to the top. I haven't tried micro guides so I can't comment. I struggle enough wit 6s I can't imagine wrapping and coating something smaller. I'll try it eventually. For guides I only use Fuji Alconite unless I go with a Sic top. When I started building rods years ago they were the lightest guides you could buy. I think they are good quality and for the money you can't beat them.
LM that is a good looking rod you have.
