These are hard to come by anymore. I know lure craft has them, but what are your thoughts on them? Like them? if not why?
My thoughts are they are useless to me. They break easier and I think they affect good hooksets too much. That is just me though abd I am far from an expert.
If you are talking about the older plastic "Y" guards, I personally think that they are way too wimpy. They serve no purpose except for looks. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
If I'm going to put in the time & trouble to mold in weedguards, I always put in the multi-fiber ones. And I usually put in as many strands as the mold will accept. I've yet to see one that I couldn't fold over when setting the hook.
I found that I missed alot more fish as they were too stiff... Probably the reason they are rarely used in todays jigs.

Are they the weed guards (two wires) used on terminator finesse jigs?
no, plastic with that go into hole and split to a Y

The reason most people missed fish with the "Y" guards were because they were TOO LONG. I always trim my guards so that they just miss the hook point when they fold up. If they're longer than that, they'll end up costing you fish. And I know that they look like they straddle the hook .... they don't. They twist and I have actually had them come back after a missed hookset and the hook would be imbedded in the guard.
Just a word from experience .... trim those guards back. No matter which style you use. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
