You can use all different types of netting for the scales. You can get mesh at hobby lobby for a little of nothing. Get the backs of netting off of dish rags, sponges even wedding vails. You can get scales out of just about anything. I got the foil at Stampee Foil and if your wife or mother knows someone that does scrapbooking and owns a cricut cutting machine, they can cut out whatever shapes you want. Here is a link for the foil, I used the holographic silver. They have a lot of colorshifts out in the sun:

Believe it or not the smallmouth over this way like the bluegill. I have caught a total of 8 smallies this year and all have came on a redeye shad that I did in the bluegill pattern. I guess they feed on bluegill also, just like the largemouth.
