I've now done a total of 2 rods. Wrapped one with A size thread, and the other with D. Not real sure which I liked better. Seemed like the finished results looked better with the A size. What does everyone prefer to use and why?

A all day on bass applications. It looks better and actually is stronger. In reality though, the strength is negligible as it takes very little to hold guides in place very well, unless of course abused. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
I have used D until now.
I am planning on moving to A on my current rod build!
A
I use size A. Thread is like fishing line the bigger it is the stronger but if your using it for a bass application it won't matter. The bigger threads are a little easier to work with but as you said the finish product won't look as good. You can pack a size A thread tighter thus leaving no gaps in the thread which makes for a cleaner look. Good luck, share some pics when you're done.
Page is right... the thicker stuff is stronger. However, you get more wraps with A, so you can apply the old lesson about breaking 3 big sticks vs. 10 little sticks.
In either case, both are plenty strong, but A looks better IMO.
A looks the best!
A looks better to me..
