I have baught lead a couple of time from Ebay and once got Great lead and of course i didnt save the name or anything of the guy because my buddy is the one who actually grabbed it for me. Anyway the last time i got lead from Ebay it was JUNK! I DID keep this guys name. i was cleaning it alot and it was tough to work with in some applications.

I have gotten my lead from the local scrap yard for years.
Last time I was there they had a 5 gallon bucket of perfect blocks. Gave forty bucks for it and took two guys to put it in my truck.
You can get old flashing or pipes, melt it down, skim it, and make your own ignots for next to nothing. That kind of lead is normal .10 to .20 cents a pound only. I wire brush it before melting it down, that takes out most of the dirt so you dont have to skim it much.

Wish I had kept the lead i had now.
Let's just say a large organization that uses lead to weight test equipment had a lead slab that was no longer certified. The guy was wondering how he could get rid of it since lead is considered hazmat by this organization.
I made the comment that there was a certain pickup truck in the parking lot that if it was to somehow end up in the bed, he'd never see it again.
Well, this was pure lead, and when I ended up selling it to the scrap man a year later, the weight was 1,998 lbs.
Sure would have made a lot of fishing weights.

Plumbers supply shops sell lead.
i get old tire weights from tire shops.. melt them down and all the impurities little mounting brackets float to the top.. i scrape them off with a big spoon then pour the lead into a cupcake pan to make a useable size block or ingot...
I forgot to mention... IF YOUR GOING TO BE MELTING LEAD.. DO IT IN A WELL VENTILATED AREA... i do mine in the driveway out in the open air and it still stinks like crazy...
