Check the Exhaust pressure sensor for carbon buildup. It may be time for a de-carb and a new set of plugs.
thanks danrude, What is the best way to decarb a ficht?
I prefer the BRP engine tune method. Get a can and follow the directions. Do not get the can with the Schroeder valve connection you want the spray nozzle, spray into the throttle bodies. do not do it on the driveway it will stain. Change and index the plugs after you perform the de-carb not before.
When was the last time the motor had a compete 100 hr. service, new plugs, and a thorough carbon cleaning, including exh. sensor?
motors have about 180 hours, with about 40 on the plugs. It been about 100 hours since a decarb but have never cleaned the exhaust sensor. I plan on doing a decarb and seeing if i can clean the exhaust sensor tomorrow. Thanks for the help danrude and seahorse! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
Hi,
You mention engines, plural. Are BOTH stalling at the same time? If so, then I doubt it's a decarb issue.
I had a similar problem with my 2000 200 Ficht and it turned out to be the shift interrupt switch in the engine. It's connected to the shift linkage rod that goes into the gear case. There's a tie wrap that's required to hold the switch tightly to the bracket. If the switch is at all loose, then the motor will experience intermittent stalling when shifting from fwd to rev or back.
This also doesn't explain the problem if BOTH engines drop out at the same time, but it's a place to start looking if they each do it intermittently.
Regards,
Bob
Having the same stalling problem with one of my 2002 225s, approximately 500 hours. Has become worse. Have decarbed but haven't cleaned the exhaust sensor tube yet. Will give that a try.
Have been running the E-TEC sparkplugs QC10WEPs all season. Engine seems to run smoother at low engine speeds all season (haven't checked gap lately) but I am still using Ficht thermostat. Should I change to E-TEC thermostat? Will that make any difference?
