i have a 98 johnson fast strike 115. when you start the motor there is a 4 signal warning scheck. this works fine on my boat. but there is a low volume horn that continuously sounds and it is coming from the ignition. anybody know what this is? you can just barely hear it. again, it is not part of the 4 warning horn check
also can i start the motor just for a sec to clear water out for cold water fishing without hurting the impeller?

It is not necessary to start your motor to clear out the water. If you put it in the veritcal position all of the water will drain. That is the way it should be stored.
You can bump it but don't start it.
Unplug the warning horn to see if the sound goes away. If so, most likely the System Check gauge is faulty as it generates the signal to sound the horn.
how do i unplug it?
Reach up behind the gauge and unplug the connector. This will also disable your warning lights so this is for test purposes.

There is a 2 wire plastic connector at the warning horn. The wires are tan-blue and a purple.
The VRO pump provides all warning sirens to the alarm horn. You can unplug the wiring connector that comes out of the front of the VRO and see if the horn stops. If it does not stop, probably a grounded wire under the helm.
If the horn stops after unplugging connector then it is probably a real alarm. A steady alarm means a no oil allert. The VRO (varriable rate oiler) counts the pulses the oil diaphram makes and compares them to the pulses the fuel diaphram makes and sounds the alarm when they get out of kilter.
oops! sorry for the rambling... but that would be a good place to start testing
