how much you looking to shorten?
the easiest way to cut a rod blank is to use a dremel tool with a cut off wheel...
how much lenght are you looking to take off? is there cork in the area where you want to cut it?
No cork, I would like to take at least 1 inch maybe 2. I would be cutting on the blank itself, I would like to keep the reel seat and turn the split grip into a regular handle, just shorter, can't get used to the split grip.
the best way is to use an exacto knife or something like that and cut away all the excess cork on the grip behind the reel seat, if you are wanting to shorten the entire rod, cut off the back of the blank only. Then once you get all the old cork off, doesnt have to be perfect, using sand paper to smooth it out. You will then use a two part rod bond epoxy that you can order from http://www.customtackle.com
then you can also order the correct grip size that you want from them as well. you will have to ream out the cork though either using a drill bit or a paddle bit to get it to the right size, but be damn careful cuz you can crack the cork. once the cork fits, use the epoxy and put the grip on and your all set...might as well put a butt cap on there as well....hope this helps you out....
