Re: Lipless Rattle Baits (Lund1625)
Each brand of lipless crank has it's own sound. Size of the chamber, size and weight of the rattles, etc. gives it a unique sound. Rat-L-traps and Spots were the standards. Now a lot of companies produce lipless cranks and all will catch fish. I stick with traps and spots because I have built up a supply over the years. The Red Eye Shad and One Knockers have a following also. If the bass were biting the trap and stop, I will go to the Spot. Often, the new sound will start them up again. Remember that a lot of baits are designed to catch anglers, not bass.
Good Fishing!
Re: Lipless Rattle Baits (LOZman)
I usually start with a Yo-Zuri Rattln Vibe, and then if I need to, I go to a Rattle Trap. These two get the majority of the bites for me. I used a Koppers this last year for a little bit, and it seems like a very promising bait. I am anxious to try out the newer Lucky Craft (can't remember the name) but it is supposed to have a larger vibration than the LV 500. I know a ton of guys that swear by the LV500, but it seems like I get a ton more bites with other baits. I know it is probably the deal when it takes a little more finesse. I also am looking forward to trying out Jackall's lipless bait too. I think the most important thing other than confidence, is having different baits ready to go, because somedays they prefer one over the other.
Re: Lipless Rattle Baits (Lund1625)
i use mostly the red eye, rat l trap and the strike king diamond shad. I agree with changing the sound. also if you are catching fish with one of the above and they quite biting I try a silent flat sided crank. I will also try different sizes aswell...
Re: Lipless Rattle Baits (Lund1625)
I like Red Eye Shads and Xcaliber esp. one knocker.

True'r words never spoken. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif Been in many a livewells myself as a purchaser of baits that only caught my eye and $$$$. We've all been there....
As for which rattle baits, Now I'm pretty much only buying the original rattle trap and the red eye shad (change the hooks on those right away). The others are good for certain but those are the ones I have confidence in.
Re: Lipless Rattle Baits (lknbassman)
My go to are the Aruku Shad's. I have caught so many fish on the three different sizes in the spring time. I also like the red eye's but when I was getting out fished by my partner using the Aruku shad's I switched. They also have great hooks, and the finishes hold up really well...chrome blue and gold are my favorite colors
Re: Lipless Rattle Baits (Lund1625)
I can't explain why but in spring i catch more on original rattletraps and xcalibur baits. In fall i get more bites with a red eye shad. can't explain it but its held true for 3 straight years. it's weird
Re: Lipless Rattle Baits (Fiddlefarter)
I see the same baits keep getting mentioned. The consensus is that you can't go wrong with Traps and Red Eyes along with a few others.
But as I suspected, nobody gets them on Rattlin Raps.
Re: Lipless Rattle Baits (Lund1625)
I catch most of mine on the xcalibur xr50 and the Cordell Super Spot. I haven't done good on traps or the red eye shad. I don't even think I've caught a fish on a red eye shad.
Re: Lipless Rattle Baits (DanCard)
Red-Eye Shad and Excalibur One knockers. These not only sound different but will dive different. They also have the RedEye's in silent versions now too but squeeze the packaging to make sure the rattle(s) are still glued in place. BPS has them but only 1 in 3 were silent when I got home hour and half away http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif
Re: Lipless Rattle Baits (Lund1625)
Rat-l-Traps seem to work best for me, but its all about confidence in a bait. But I have caught one of my bigger lipless crankbait bass on a Spro.
