fishing pattern transition Question

What are some of the best tell tale indications to look for when locating fall bass? I have a small lake behind the house that has some decent sized fish in it. My biggest is 24" long caught during the summer on a crank bait in 16 plus foot of water. In the summer they will absolutely murder a Carolina rig on main lake points. However, here lately they haven't seemed to be on the main lake points I have caught them off of timber. I have no clue what the water temp is right now but I would guess in the mid to low 80's. I don't have a water temp gauge on my depth finder. I am currently in the process of working to get this boat the way I want it. I guess what I am asking is , what do I look for when locating these fish? I have no problem finding the fish in hot weather but as soon as it cools it seems to be hit and miss around the grass. Have they left the grass altogether? They really seem to be concentrated around the timber, what gives? I can follow the schools of bait fish around, and sometimes I can really load the boat when they are schooling. I just wish I had some kind of a starting point when the water cools off. Bass tend to transition to main lake feeding flats with deep water close by. They will stay around the flats until they follow forage into the creeks and large coves. Large bass will continue to be on the flats as long as there is forage around. In highland lakes like Table Rock and Lake of the Ozarks the best flats are in 20-30 ft. of water. The transition is already taking place on the above lakes. Hope this helps you.
