Which do you reach for first? an H-toad (or any other soft-plastic buzzbait) or the old squeeky standard buzzbait?
I've been throwing toads so long now, that I hardly ever reach for an old-style buzzbait. Am I missing out?

Never go if fishing without both if I have even the slightest feeling a topwater bite will be on...I typically have both rigged on at that point too
The only plastic I'll use to replace the buzzbait at times is the Rage Shad, but other than that I'll usually use both and as Bryan said let the fish tell you what they want http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
Depends on the cover. Lot's of emerging weeds like Willow Weed and Buck Brush or thick Hydrila that would clog up a Buzzbait or lot's of laydown logs that a frog would crawl over but a Buzzbait would get hung on, I'll go with either a Fork Frog or Bull Ribbit. Fairly open water with just trees sticking up or submerged weeds, I'll probably go with a Buzzbait.

I prefer the buzzbait around harder cover like wood and stalky vegetation like water willow and the frog around leafy/thinner/scummier/mossy vegetation
I think the reason toads worked so well is they were something the fish hadn't seen or heard. Now everyone is fishing toads, and most of the fish rarely if ever hear a buzzbait. I'd have to think now would be a great time for a squeaky buzzer.
