Okay guys, give me some pointers on this. I tried this yesterday and it was taking forever for the worm and hook to sink. Does anyone weight the hook or worm? Not good on a windy day? http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/popcorn.gif

How slow it sinks is part of what makes the wacky rig work so well. It's a finesse technique so slow is good. Which soft plastic were you using? Some have less salt in them than others do so they will sink slower. It's a great technique under the right circumstances. All I'm using for is around boat docks and shallow brush so I haven't tried the weighted heads yet.
to get a faster fall use a jig head instead of jsut a plain hook

Some times a split shot about 18-20 inches a way works good. A cast net works best for cathing fish! Have a good weekend Sambone! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif P.S. Make sure th PO-Tater is clean and shiny, dull boats scare away fish! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
As stated, some whacky worms sink slower than others. For instance, Yamamotos (my favorite) fall faster than Yum but quite a bit.
Fishing a Senko wacky rigged I will shove a finishing nail in one end and a rattle in the other. The nail is about 1 inch long and a box of them is a lot cheaper than lead weights.
I fish a lot of clear water, so I sometimes bury those bait weight's in the middle at the hook (like a finishing nail daleco78 mentioned, but no head), to increase the fall rate.

If the water is stained, I'll also put a rattle in one tail, or both.

But fishing it on windy days is tough. When I cast out, I try to side cast the bait as low and close to the water, and as soon as the bait hits the water; I shoot the rod tip down to get all the line, to rest on top of the water. It keeps the wind from pulling more line off the spinning reel. And it's easier to watch the line for any action too. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif
Steve,
Just so you know, I put the Renegade 23 back on to try. I wanted to make sure I could hit my rpm. I did. Max speed though, was 63.7 mph (gps) at wot and 5300 rpm. I could have got more but that dang chine thing...let's just say I'm working through it. Also, talk about hole shot...man that thing SHOOTS out on plane, no blowout and the bow rise is almost non-existant. I mean, without exaggeration, about 1.5 to 2 seconds and I'm planed out totally and gone.
So that means....the Raker II 26 WILL work and is the best Prop for speed, it's just me getting more seat time and learning how not to deficate when the nose gets airborne! The ETEC will definitely spin it, I just can't, at this time, get up on the pad without chine.
Also, I did notice something kinda weird, or at least to me. There was a point, I don't know, probably about 58 - 60 mph where the chine was bad and I kinda pushed through it, tapping to the left and at about 60 - 62 or so, it got easier, that's when I hit the max speed above. I wanted to push it at that point, but a dang Jet Ski wake was approaching and I trimmed down and backed off.
I'm still learning...and that buddy of mine with the new Skeeter...he went to Lake Conroe last Sunday and nailed a 9lb 7oz right across from Anchorage Marina with a Watermelon Baby Brush Hog. He threw out, the wind caught it, he backlashed and was trying to get it straight and the line took off. He about died. He said he set the hook and knew it was big, then said to heck with the backlash and just started reeling, he horsed him in the boat and the hook came out as he hit the floor board.
Well...I'm off to Lake Livingston to do the Easter thing with the family. I'm dragging the boat with me and I'll be on Tripple Creek this afternoon huntin' dem Hogs. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/pimp2.gif
Thanks for all the tips guys....I'll try the jighead, light weight, and the nail thing too. There's been a lot of people fishing this dang contraption and doing well with it. I want to get it down..

rattle sounds like agood idea. but doesnt that get expensive? senkos are expensive enough by themselves (about a buck apiece. add rattle now your looking at 1.50 x20 min if fish are biting) how do you keep cost down?
anybody fish this technique using braided line? Is it effective with braided line because braid sinks differently than mono

An o-ring on the senko helps them last much........much longer. I rarely loose any in the water with the o-ring.
I also use the o-ring and if senko starts spliting in two you can easily take the rattle out and put it in a new senko. I use the glass rattle with 2 balls inside. You might lose a few rattles do to breakage when the 4 and 5 lbers slam their jaws shut. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif
Here is my little secret.... SH~H~H~H~H
Since I make stick baits I can adjust the fall rate with the amount of salt I add. BUT, I make my own personal baits with just a little salt for a SLOW fall rate. If I want a faster fall rate, I use ,035 lead fly tying wire wrapped around the hook shank a few times. I use a 2/0 octopus hook for this.
The nail & rattle works, too but affects the action some.
Use a 1/4 oz. jighead and try that.
If I run out of O rings I wrap a piece of electrical tape around the middle.Helps keep the worm from tearing.
Try a wedless hook and a Gambler Ace, yes they tear but they are the closest to the Senko w/o the Senko $$
