Hi-Vis Braid/Flouro leader?
I just bought a spool of Power Pro Hi-Vis 40lb. I am thinking of spooling it on my jig/worm reel. The Hi-Vis will allow you to see the line moving above the water with the advantantage of the Flouro leader at the bait. This seems to be a great idea, but will look quite weird. Im a little hesitant to do this. Any thoughts/comments are appreciated! Thanks

I know several people that are doing this on their shakey head, and some other finess set-ups. I'm playing with it a little right now too, and it's looking like a pretty useful tool in this cold water time of the year for sure. I'm using very small diameter braid for this. I don't know if I would like it on heavier tackle??? Might be worth trying though. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
The tiny diameter braid (NO line memory)on spinning gear is sure nice. I don't use spinning gear very much. But, i'm trying to learn too, when necessary.

sounds like a great idea. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif let us know how it works out. I'm still trying to figure out how to tie 2 lines together in a more efficient way. It seems to take me FOREVER. And, when I'm finally finised, I just dont have much confidence in the knot I've tied.

I understand the concept here, but have never tried this myself. How long of a leader to you use with this? Obviously its got to be long enough to get the braid away from the lure, but how short is too short, and how long is too long?

I think 18", or so is about the shortest to go as a rule, and I prefer to keep the knots from getting all the way to the reel spool (When bait is reeled all the way up to the rod tip). So, the rod length kinda dictates the "long" rule of thumb.
I like to start out with the knot real close to reaching the reel spool on the initial set-up. This gives some room to re-tie several times (change baits) on the same leader, and gives a little room to cut off nicked line ends too. JMHO

I am probrably going to use a 2ft leader. I will be mostly pitching on a 7'2" cumera rod. I just dont like the knot between the leader and braid to go through the rod tip eye, this is aggrevating!
Re: Hi-Vis Braid/Flouro leader? (txmartin)
I have done this most of last year and love it! One of the guys I fish with, thinks I'm crazy, but it's a great way to see those subtle line movements; and I've caught several fish I know I would have never seen.

I use spinning tackle and the thin braid (8lb) casts soooo smooth. I use about a 10-20' (yes foot) fluoro leader, cause I'm usually in 20+ foot of clear water (about 8-10' visibility). This way I can easily see the line, but the fish won't. I tie an Albright knot and have yet to have the line break at the knot. After you tie it, give it some good tugs; and if its gonna break, it'll break then. It took me days and days of practice tying the knot in front of the TV, but it now works great!

And I think Guido Hibdon started using a similar principle this year, and one over $100k at one event with it. He was really singing the praises of jig fishing docks like this. (Which I love skipping finesse baits with it. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif )

Try it, you'll like it!

I don't use the Hi-Vis poewr pro, just the Normal Green 30lbs with a 5-6ft leader{14lbs Sunline}. I don't think it looks weird maybe I am used to it already. I am a big believer of them able to "SEE" the power pro. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif
Re: Hi-Vis Braid/Flouro leader? (Explorer)
I've been fishing a couple rods with the Yellow Power Pro and a 6' P-line floro leader for two season now. One rod is my senko rod. For this method it is unbeatable!! I've been using 14 lb for the braid and 8 or 10 lb for the leader. If you toss this rig up under a dock or pontoon boat the yellow line acts as a strike indicator... any twitch, and I mean ANY TWITCH and I set the hook hard!! I know for a fact I have caught fish I would not have caught on green line or mono. I love the yellow line!!!
The other rod I fish this on is my wieghtless texas rig rod (swim baits, flukes, swimsenkos, etc...). I don't think it's as effective on this rig as it is on my senko rig. But it works nonetheless.
Now, what knot to use?? Use a uni to uni knot, tie it tight, and trim the tags as short as you possibly can. Make sure you WET THE LINE when cinching the knot tight!!! I run a 6' leader because it cannot get into the reel (I use a 6'8" St. Croix Legend) and I have no issue with the knot going thru the guides. I have NEVER had the knot fail. The other reason I use the longer leader is that if you do get a nick in the floro (and you will get nicks) you have enough leader to re-tie the hook without having to put a new leader on. Once it reaches 2-3' or so I will re-tie a new leader.
