question on casting reel (citica)
i have a citica casting reel 2 yrs old thats not casting well. the spool doesnt free spin very good. which means the lure doesnt free fall very good either. is this reel worth getting super tuned? what does that involve and is it worth it? also will a wiffle spool make a difference?
Re: question on casting reel (walligator)
sounds like it just needs a good cleaning.
Re: question on casting reel (Hardhead1)
Definitely just clean it out. If you don't feel comfortable have a pro do it for you. Should be under $20 to do it and it will get a full inspection in the process. Supertuning should be done while the reel is being cleaned but I don't think you would notice enough benefit to pay someone to do it. I have done all mine myself.
As far as a wiffle spool goes you won't be able to find one for your citica. The wiffle spools are all superfree spools. To get a wiffle spool you will have to upgrade to another reel.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Re: question on casting reel (walligator)
Shimano has an unofficial recall on the Citica. There is a design problem with the level-wind that causes binding. see link - go to Citica upgrade tutorial on bottom of page
http://fish.shimano.com/publis....html Shimano has kept the issue hush hush and never admitted it is a serious mistake on their part. However, they are trying to repair the problem by retrofitting a couple parts into the poor design. This reel will let you down at the worst possible time. Normally, when you are fighting a fish is when it binds up. I just got rid of my last Shimano on ebay and good riddens. A manufacturer that wont stand behind their product is not one that I want to be associated with.
Re: question on casting reel (kicker-fish)
thanks i will look into it!!
Re: question on casting reel (kicker-fish)
That doesn't apply to a two year old Citicia, only the new model.
