Question about an idea I have and how to get it out there....
I thought of a pattern (paint) for cranks, jerks, and buzzbaits. I know it would do really well and actually catch fish too, not just fisherman.
How would I "market" my idea? Could I approach a manufacturer, like Rapala or something, and say I want to sell you an idea.
Ok, not in those words but I think you know what I mean.
What are your thoughts? Should I get some baits made up and have a presentation going to show them? what?????
Thanks

First thing you'll want is a copyright.

Shawn is right. Get any new pattern copyrighted. Then maybe you could carve, or have carved, a couple of examples. Take some photos and send them to a couple of the larger manufacturers. If you get no bites, (pun intended) try taking it to someone familiar with plastic molding.
If you don't know anyone in that business, go to Thomas Register. It is large listing of businesses, mostly in the US, and search by product listing. You can find volumes of Thomas Register in your local library, but they are on the web.
CYOA. If you feel stongly about your chances of success with this, contact a lawyer - one who does patents, contracts, copyrights, etc. He/she can tell you if it is a patent or copyright you need. (Got to thinking about it and not sure which one you need to protect your design.)
Good luck with your idea,
Dan

BJ talk to Rick (Persuader) or Eric (Heavy Cover) and ask them
