Anyone replaced a heat pump lately?
I think this year is the year to replace my entire heat pump / heat exchanger in the house. My ass is in Iraq and my wife says it's not doing real well on those 80+ degree days. Can't imagine it's going to get any better. I think the system is about 12-15 years old. Anybody have any idea what this is going to cost me? 1700 sq ft single story with a FROG. I'm just across the VA border in Moyock, NC.

Brian, I replaced mine at the beginning of winter last year.... Sounds like we have about the same size house. It will depend on the size of the unit you get. We got a 3 ton unit, cost $6800, $1500 tax credit and 10% military discount. We used RS Adrews. They did a great job, very professional. Also got a 6 year warrenty on the entire system and they come out once a year to do regular maintance.
Good Luck!!!

I have seen several invoices from people claiming the tax credit for 2010. The lowest I recall seeing was around $5,800 with most being in the $6,500 to $7,500 range as previously noted.

What ever you buy just make sure your Seer rating is high on your unit. Cheap unit is 10-13 seer and the best are 18-20. The higher seer gives you better energy/performance efficiency which in turn means lower cost to run..

should be able to get a nice unit and airhandler installed for about $5000
Re: Anyone replaced a heat pump lately? (sonnydays)
If not mistaken the lowest seer rating you can get now is 13 and the highest that I know of unless you use geo thermal is 21.
And Train is really good.

Brian, yours should be around a 3 ton unit. Depending on the brand anywhere from $4000.00 and up installed using existing duct work. I assume you have an electric strip heat air handler in your attic. 13 SEER is the lowest they can sell now,
R22 is now being phased out and 410A is the new gas so if you go cheap it will be a 22 unit and not 410A. If you need any questions answered IM or call me or Andy Lavin as we are both in HVAC/R. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif

Brian you should be able to get a good name brand like American Standard or Trane for about : 13 SEER $5,000 - $5,500.
14 SEER $5,900- $6,600.
15 SEER $6,700- $7,400.
16 SEER $8,600- $9,500.
20 SEER $9,600- $10,700.
Keep in mind that a heat pump runs year round so the higher the SEER that you can afford the lower your monthly electric bill will be.
Good luck and remember what they say... "You get what you pay for"
