2008 225 H/O Wouldn't Go!
I was out on the lake the other day and just got fishing a spot for about 45 minutes. Started up the motor, runs fine at idle. Put it in gear, runs fine at idle speed. Hit the throttle (hot foot), and the motor doesn't accelerate at all!.. It remains at idle speed but the sound of the engine changes like the exhaust is being muffled or something. I try to accelerate several times and again no change in rpm just the sound of the exhaust change..
After a minute, I thought I was going to have to start heading for the marina at idle speed and all of a sudden after hitting the throttle one more time, it took off like a scalded dog (everything back to normal). Throttle cable was ok, had plenty of fuel and oil.
Can anyone explain what happened?

Most likely you had your foot on the throttle when you started the motor. It will not accelerate if it senses the throttle sensor being opened when starting. Similar symptoms occur if the throttle cable adjustment does not close fully at idle.

Was your motor shaky when you press the throttle? Mine did exactly like yours then all of a sudden all the power would come back. Found out that my #1 injector was bad. After changing the injector no problem.

No, it was running smooth, no misses or shakes.. The change in the sound of the exhaust when I hit the throttle was the only thing out of the ordinary, it was like it was being muffled somewhat. But no change in rpms or smoothness.
