I cant emphasize enough the importance of contacting Bob's Machine Shop for the updated stop block (im not sure of the exact name). There was a horrific accident recently where the outboard came into the cockpit of a Ranger. Both fishermen were seriously injured with one having to have a leg amputated.
This has been a known issue for awhile, however its close to home now with the incident last week on the Upper Ches. VERY IMPORTANT!
I believe those stops were upgraded in 04 models.

What I am saying is that there was a fix in 04, the 06 plate should be ok but worth checking as Rob said.

So... I was thinking of getting a Bob's JP this winter. Is a strong plate? How about Atlas?

I just got off the phone with Robert at Bobs Machine and the upgrade kit to install the stops is free. All you need to do is provide the serial number of the jack plate, make and model of your boat and engine and they will ship it to the address you provide free of charge. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

I contacted Bob's a couple of years ago and got the stops installed..no charge.
