the rivers......not just do well every tourny, but dominate. I consider myself an average fisherman and have my days on the river, but I am talking about just straight up having a winning bag EVERY tourny....just amazing. Yep, and lots of experience and time on the water for some of the guys down here. One of the guys down here even gave me a bait and told me what to do, and I still can't get it to work.

Yeah I came from lake erie and these rivers and lakes for that matter just have me baffled more often than not......and yet these places are DOMINATED by a few.

Years ago, a good friend of mine, now deceased, a legend on the Chickahominy River, Don Forman, gave me some very sage advice. I wish many times I had taken it with more seriousness than I did. He told me to pick a body of water and learn as much about it as I could. Pay particular attention to how water levels and temperatures effect it. Put only a minimum of tackle in your boat that you know how to use. We all are continually looking for shortcuts (new lures, colors, rods, reels, etc. etc) and maybe that isn't a bad thing. Nothing, however, takes the place of preparation and experience. It doesn't hurt either to have some courage. As good as he was on the Chickahominy, he never fished a tournament there that he had not prefished on Wednesday or Thursday just before the tournament. Just my .02 worth.

I like to fish a series of Tournys on Gaston. I can be very consistant, sometimes the big guns will flub up a couple of times and I can at least compete for the end year bonus. Made um sweat a couple times.

practice on the rivers and figuring out what "parts" are productive and when? I know several people make "runs" based on wind and water levels and I just am CLUELESS as to why the M and N arent good on certain wind directions while way down river http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif is turned on by another.

Ive fished about 6 (100 boat) Va Federation Region 7 events and was fortunate to have won 2 of them. But the only way I can compete with those guys is to spend the entire week leading up to the tournament on the water. Im just not good enough to fish against these guys cold. I know where plenty of them are most just have to go out on the right tides to find them...Still doesn't do squat for me as far as catching them.
