Voltage reg replacement - 175 Fastrike

I know I have seen this asked before but can not find in past posts.

Can I replace my voltage reg #584093 with a #586048 ? Only physical difference is the lack of a "purple" wire.

I don't know about the part #'s but I do know that the new regulators don't have the purple wire.
