Replacing my current lead cranking battery with Lithium and leaving my other lead batteries on trolling motor. Can I just disconnect current cranking battery and hook up Lithium exactly the same way? Thanks guys I know nothing about this stuff. Also it shouldn't make a difference using two types of batteries for two different things should it?
thats fine as long as your charger is compatible and you are planning to use a DualPurpose or cranking lithium
a little more info like motor and boat type would help but are you sure your engine is compatible with a lithium cranking battery? And if so, are you buying a lithium battery made just for a cranking situation?
Everything checks out. Lithium will crank and run electronics. Charger will work too.
Go with a good one. BMS programming and quality will make a big difference with a cranking battery. Cj
Yes. I replaced mine with Ionic 125 and it was a great move for me.
I have a stator charged outboard so I cannot get a lithium cranking battery. I kept my lead cranking battery for the outboard and pumps/power poles, lights, etc. I have a 24 group litime 100ah battery for my electronics now.

Many folks are using lithium cranking batteries with their permanent magnet alternators. Mercury Marine has even approved a number of their models having permanent magnet alternators with lithium cranking batteries.

From my experience the LiPo batteries can take a very high charge rate which is hard on all charging systems. I have had a few failures with extremely bad outcomes. To me it seems that the manufacture's need to limit that max charge rate that the BMS will allow. IMO it should be limited to 30-40amps. I'm not sure what the max charge rate is for flooded or AGM's batteries, but it should be duplicated since they're rarely the cause for charging system failures.
I also run an Ionic 125ah that was purchased from Drewcraft. No issues and works great. Call Andy...he will get you set up.
I did this too, my lead acid starting/electronics battery didn't have enough capacity to run all my electronics for much over six hours. I replaced it with an Impulse Lithium All Purpose 105ah and couldn't be happier I did have to replace my charger too as my older MK charger wouldn't charge lithium batteries. My boat has an 02 Yamaha 90hp and there haven't been any issues.Quote:
