Battery tray threaded rods.. need longer ones

I'm referring to the threaded rods that screw into the bottoms of the battery trays that the tops attach to (the metal BassCat trays).


I currently have Pro Guide batteries that are 8.68" tall.

I'm switching to a Pro Guide PGL31M235-DP, which is 10.83" tall.

I haven't received it yet, but the "bolts" don't appear that they'll be long enough. I have a little over an inch left now. A battery that is 2" taller is going to be too big.

Where can I get longer ones? Looks like Lowes and HD may have them.

Anyone know the size and thread pattern?

Just get a stick of all-thread in the proper threading and cut them however long you need. I’ve had to do that a couple of times over the years.

I guess you are purchasing the 31 series "tall". I wondered how tall they were and if they would fit my 2022 Cougar trays. Sounds like new threaded rods are needed as was noted.

Will post an update after I get them. There's a chance the original rods for, but it doesn't look like it.

I didn't realize I could buy longer "all thread" rods at the store until after I posted this. I'll just grab a nut off my current rods and take it with me to make sure I get the right size.

The rods will need threaded extenders with a long nut.

95% sure its a 5/16-18 thread. Make sure to get stainless threaded rod.

Amazon. I purchased some 12” SS ones that set me back 10 bucks for 4. Have been in a few months and 0 issues.

Threaded couplings and an extra couple inches of threaded rod.

If anyone is curious - the PGL31M235-DP doesn't fit using the factory rods for the battery trays. I grabbed some 2ft stainless rods and cut them to about 12" and I'm all set.

One thing to note - the posts on the battery (rather the holes the posts screw into) aren't flush with the top of the battery. They're about 3/8 - 1/2" lower. This means the brass "connector plate" that BCB uses doesn't fit. It can't be mounted flush to the battery. However, there are 3 battery "posts" so the plate isn't necessary.

(and yes, I still used copper washers)

When I had this issue, I used threaded couplers and long bolts from the top. So instead of a nut on top just use a longer bolt…

My issue is that the coupler would have been right in the middle of where the tray sits. I still would have had to cut the original rods to make the coupler fit in a different spot... or put the coupler at the bottom so the original rods stick out higher. It was easier to just get new rods if I have to take the originals out anyway.
