FRESH WATER OR SALT WATER BASS???
I made my first trip to the tidal waters of NC today and WOW! My wife and I saw a Dolphin WAY up the river, jelly fish, and I was catching striper! I know striper aren't that uncommon but Flipper??? Weirdest deal, cruising through a no wake zone and the dolphin surfaced twice...once a little way away and once right next to the boat. The salt water must be a long way up in the rivers!

We are in a severe drought situation, so many of our tidal rivers, which would normally be considered fresh, are now very much influenced by salt influx.
Stripers come up in fresh to spawn...so we see them way upriver...But Dolphins are here only because of the salt influx....

I was down in New Bern this weekend but only for a short visit. Sounds like maybe I should drag my boat down for Christmas time. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif

Dolphins would also freak me.....unless I was close to the Albemarle Sound....
We are Chowan River mostly....Hope to see you there... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif

Afew years back I crossed the Albemarle Sound in an Xpress Bass Boat I had, came out the Roanoke and into the Chowan... I was stationed in J'Ville for a long time in the late 80's to the mid 90's....I have a LOT to re-learn!!!

I mostly fish the "upper" Chowan,, but hope to see you in our area.....(when it gets warmer...I have less temperature tolerances than I did when I was younger http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif )

I love to fish so much I do it whenever I can!

Lot of salt water in the rivers this year. I've seen flounder caught where I didn't think they would be.

Seeing all of this really has my confidence shaken to be able to catch bass, can bass be caught in these area's? They can't just leave can they? I know they can be forced further up river some but, how much salt water can they live in? Any thoughts or input???

I saw a school (or is it pod) of dolphins once in the Perquimans River. Must have been about 15 years ago...

THis past summer I saw dolphins at Cannons Ferry. I heard reports of them being almost as far up as Shoups. I dont know if they made it to the bridge or not. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif
