Buying a. voltage regulator

What brand of voltage regulator would be good for a 1995 Promax 225 efi 2.5L?

Mercury/Quicksilver ONLY.

Replace IN PAIRS.

Just trying to learn something here so get mad but is there a reason why it has to be a Mercury part, and why does it have to be bought in pairs?
When I do a search for voltage regulators for sale they range from $15- $50. Then I go to Pro Marine and it's only $291+tax and shipping for 1 regulator! And, although I am having my motor rebuilt because of a clogged injector, my motor has had two different voltage regulators the whole time I've had it, about 8 years.

The ones you're seeing for $15-$50 are coming from a source we don't support here in the forums, and one of the reasons is that most of the product there is simply junk. Especially this type of item... they're cheap for a reason.

In many cases, a failed regulator causes damage to it's mate. The OEM regulators contain a redundant ground pathway, as well as an upgraded (and fused) power supply circuit.

A failing, over-worked, poorly grounded, or "cheap" regulator greatly increases the chances of something that Smokey the Bear did NOT refer to as "a minor thermal event". Seen many a charred engine caused by regulator meltdown (often a result of bad/incorrect/discharged/poorly-connected battery).

big o what battery are you running for your cranking ????

I guess I looked at the price wrong on Pro Marines website. I went ahead and had my builder order a set of them $200.

Yes, I've ran that size battery for the last 8 years on my Xb2003. I didn't realize it was a small battery. What do you mean by "good luck now..."?

didnt mean anything bad by it , just wish folks good luck sometime in their repairs , i guess batt just seems small in todays multi screen fishing application , if it works good for you :thumb up2:

Yeah it starts the motor and powers one 899. Seems to do ok.
