I have searched and can’t find anything. I have a new Minn Kota Ultrex Quest and on spot lock it will go back and forth to position itself to keep me on a spot. I tried adjusting the boat scale but didn’t really help. Any ideas?

My Quest hunts a lot too. I have boat scale at max, -2. And that did help some. I guess maybe it is the price we pay to have a more accurate spot lock? My older iPilot MK didn't hunt this much, but it didn't hold a spot nearly as well either.
Unless you guys have some very light boats I think a call to MK is in order. There must be some kind of problem besides boat size. Use the install guide to make sure everything is setup correctly. Too big a price to accept that. JMOP Bob
An item that is often overlooked is the plumb and level of the motor shaft. If it is not very close to correct, when the motor makes the correction to line up with the spot there will be an error because of the shaft not being plumb. Requiring another correction and so on. It is also the only way to know the proper direction for your ffs cast. Each time you replace a trolling motor shimming will be required because of different bases and the weight difference alone will change the angle of your shaft. It is required to make your adjustments based on your location on the bow when fishing there to make your adjustments as accurate as possible. Not perfect, but close.
If there is no wind or current its going to move your boat one direction, then back to the other back and forth.
This is true even in low wind. Luckily that is not the situation often.
I have a wedge that I have not put on yet that should make the shaft more plumb. Maybe that will do it. If not I think a call to MK will be next. Thanks for the advice.
In my case, I already called MK about it, while I was on the water. Beyond the -2 setting, they had nothing else to suggest. Also, the shaft is very close to plumb while fishing. Brought a level with me one day. The Quest is mounted in the same place that my iPilot motor was. Neither required shims.
But like I said, it may be the nature of the beast. The iPilot may have made the same number of corrections, just spread out over more time, since it would take it longer to react.
I replaced my Ultrex with a Quest about two months ago. The Ultrex was terrible about how much it hunted back and forth on spot lock. The Quest has been perfect out of the box without doing anything. I am amazed at how little it moves compared to the Ultrex. I do still have the Ultrex heading sensor attached to my NMEA system. I don't know if that has anything to do with it.
How is that accomplished? Cabling, Ethernet? WiFi?
The Minn Kota heading sensor does not come into play with the quest. It has it own built in heading sensor. The Heading sensor does not connect to the NEMA or Ethernet. It is a stand alone device that will Bluetooth connect to the older style GPS controller.
A GPs troll motor will have issues with small boats especially Aluminum. Wind and current will also factor into performance of a GPS Troll Motor. If none of these factors come into play and even if they do download the one boat app and update the software and see how it performs.
Hunting as you say is an indication to me that it is not locked onto the satellite or the factors I mentioned above are affecting it. This could be a GPS Module issue also. I suggest you update the software and then try it out with the boat scale adjusted properly to you size boat. If this does not improve then I would bring it in to an ASC for a warranty repair. They will replace the GPS Module and that should fix the problem.
I have that situation even on the main lake if I am close to a straight up cliff. 1/2 the satellites are blocked from view. You may have had most of them blocked from view.
Used spot lock on the main lake a couple of times yesterday. Much less hunting.
