Well I think you will find a very strong Merc following on this board. I for one love my motor but won't claim it to be the best out there but the 250 Pro XS is hard to beat http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif
My favorite is Mercury. I had a 250 HPDI Yamaha on the Champ and I just never trusted it. Seems you always had to change filters and the lower unit needed blue printed to run right-too big. While Ive owned Evinrude and Johnson, that was pre-Bombardier so I really cant comment on those. This is my 2nd Racing Merc but the first Racing Optimax...time will tell http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/praying.gif
Daryl, even though my boat is on the shelf right now with motor drama, i still like Evinrude Outboards. Eventually every motor is going to do what mine did, but that's part of the game. That and my motor has a lot more hours on it than most others do. That being said Trick's 250 Pro XS is the strongest motor i've ever seen. The mid-range on that motor is unbelievable and for it to push the 2 of us to over 76 is impressive and if he ever got the motor set to the right height and got the prop worked i can't imagine what that motor is capable of.
Minn Kota the best!

I like evinrude just because that is what was on my boat when I bought it. I am not a name man. Have not researched new ones to know what i am talking about, but I like anything that gets me to the hole and back quickly. http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

I'll stick a vote for the Yammie just because that is what I have.
evinrude/johnson never failed me
I've owned two Yamaha's and two OMC's (Johnson Fast Strike).... never owned a Merc
Yamaha's have both been very dependable and haven't experienced any power head or lower unit problems
Johnson Fast Strikes required one lower unit replacement on the 1st and 3 lower units on the 2nd.... also had to replace the power pack on the 2nd Johnson several times
Merc had a very bad reputation 10 years ago, but seem to have really turned things around......
I can't reply on the Yamaha yet, only had the motor about five months. I can say that I've had very good luck with both my Merc's and Johnson. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/USA1.gif
Mercury for me because I live like 5 minutes from Sandersons so easy to have worked on. I would not be real picky with any 2 stroke out there because they all seem to be good....well except for Yamaha's problems but like everyone else they will get it straight.
