Bought a new boat, came with a slow prop and low top end RPM prop. Getting 60-63 at 5100 RPM, that is plenty fast for me. I can upgrade and do a 23 pitch and get 67-68mph at 6000 RPM. BUT I kinda like not running the boat HOT when I do open her up. Is there an issue with my current prop and RPM levels? Will the top end RPM range hurt my motor at all? I feel as if it will NOT, but want to ask as I am hearing from both sides.... Thanks.
In my experience I'm Fairly sure you want to be propped to the correct WOT RPM range for your motor, theoretically that actually puts less stress on the motor, doesn't bog it down and allows it run in the right range when you do open it up. Got almost 900hrs on my motor and I get it up close to 6k rpm basically every trip out
Better to prop it correctly and keep your foot out of it in my opinion.Quote:

After re-reading your post I have a question. Can you only spin your current prop to 5100rpms? What prop are you currently running?
