Has anybody else had or know why my baits disappears between 8-16 ft?
I see the bait hit the water and down to about 8 ft, and then it disappears. It reappears at about 16 ft and I see it all way to the bottom.

Remember that the beam is relatively narrow. It can be tricky. Unless you are 100% in line with the center of the beam, your cast can be in the beam at splashdown, but as it falls, remember that it is acting lick a pendulum and coming too you as it falls. Could be exiting the beam at that point. Test it by pointing the transducer exactly out the front of the boat and make a perfect cast. See if you see the bait the entire time. Then turn the beam to 45° and cast and repeat. See if you see it , then you don't. Heck, turn the beam 90° and cast across the beam and watch. You won't see anything until the bait enters the beam and then you will lose it again as it exits out the side of the beam width.
Also, check your indexing of the transducer. Find a pole or dock post. Sweep the beam across it and see if the brightest return corresponds with the point you are watching. Mine was not right for a while and I was missing my target quite a bit.
Try a zero degree transducer mount.
Is your transducer one click up from parallel or two?
Is your trolling motor plumb? (straight up and down and side to side)
Are you fishing current?
no, I'm fishing lakes. The pollen has been terrible lately, but this problem has been going on for a long time.
