12-1 Viking report. Really good afternoon!!
Went to church this morning then had some lunch in town after, came home and took off got on the water 1:30. I put in at the restaurant ramp. Dock is still in. Water was pretty clear but has a little green stain. Started on the rocks straight east of the ramp. I could see fish over there so through the Jerkbait. 2nd cast got one. Stayed there and caught a dozen small bass. Tried a jig and ned plus a blade but nothing. Moved south and had my side scan at 140ft. Saw some fish on the channels and around the brush. After a pass down close to the campground I turned around and fished back slowly ( north wind so that works better) caught a few as I was going north. I came to a hump by the channel swing and power poled down. ( I love the 10ft power poles! So much better than the 8’s) used my active target and caught more bass. Saw a bigger fish about 60ft in open water over the channel and cast the Jerkbait (mb 110jr) to it and made a few twitch’s and it came fast for it. Best one of the day! Nice 3lb…. Moved down past the swimming area to the main lake point on the west side.. lots of bait around the point and rock ref. Caught a dozen more little ones there with crappie mixed in. The sun was down now so motored back to the ramp and caught a few more by the rocks before loading up. The Jerkbait was the only thing that got bite today. Wt was 40-42 I Battled ice pretty bad on the rods/reels today but that’s winter fishing I guess. I really want to go to a different lake but pretty sure it would have ice at the boat ramp there, it’s pretty shallow and freeze fast there. Viking should be good next weekend still.
