(1997) Evinrude Intruder 175 Problem
Model# E175GLEVC, Serial # G04292825 Hey guys! I took the boat out this past Saturday. Started up fine. Ran to the first and second spots with no problems.. Well my trolling motor died so nothing else I could do but load up and go to the house.. So I am leaving spot #2.. First let me say that anytime I let the boat sit for 30 mins or more I have to pump the bulb before I start it or it will not run. So I pumped the bulb and the motor fired up and I run about 200 yards and the motor just cut back and idled down and died.. I turned the key to fire it back up and it would not start. I pumped the bulb back up. Motor fired up and I ran about 150 yards and it did it again. So I told my wife to drive and I would sit on the back deck and pump the bulb. So I did that and we didnt have anymore problems to the dock. So my question is do you think that it is fuel only problem? And if so what all should I change out? Filter, new fuel line (it has dry rot cracks starting in it) any thing else. Also since I have had this boat the horn doesnt work. Like when I turn the key to start up I never get a sound. So that freaks me out some.. I do how ever have the start up lights... I keep an I eye that to see if I was over heating or something.. But no lights comes on.. And I know they work.. Sorry this post is so long... Thanks for any info.. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/praying.gif

Sounds like you have a fuel restriction of some sort.......or bad bulb.
I had a similar problem with my 99 225 HO........my buddy had to lay on the back deck and keep pumping the bulb to keep us going when idleing........but once up on plane there was enough of a vacuum from the engine....it pumped it's self...until dropping back down to idle. My problem was I needed a new VRO pump.
You will get help from the experts shortly......

Did you replace the primer bulb with a genuine BRP bulb? Pull off the air box and look at the fuel filter to see if the O ring is leaking. If not the Fuel pump would be suspect.

No I haven't replaced the primer bulb yet. Up until yesterday the motor never give me trouble except having to pump it up before each start. Never shut down on me before.

Well I just got a call from the boat mechanic and he found 3 gas leaks. He replaced the fuel line, bulb. While the boat was there I went ahead and had them replace fuel filter, lower unit, and new spark plugs. I'm headed to pick it up here in a few mins. Will not be able to take it to the lake until next weekend. Hopfully everything will be ok.. Thanks for everyone's input. Have a good weekend.
