Fred G. corkpuller Sanford
Went to the scrap yard this mornin with various pieces of metal, an old edger and an old power washer, the one what says "easy one pull start" that I'd jerked on for the last time before it cost me rotator surgery.
Scrap yard is always an interesting place with some of the community's most upstanding citizens. Should have known not to go on Monday mornin http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif , the place was hoppin like the Wal Mart day before Christmas. There were 13 pickups ahead of me, some with trailers, couple of em looked like they might qualify as scrap, a wrecker with a mashed Bronco, two chicks with 8 teeth, short shorts, no bras, and some dudes with some very poor prison art tattoos. I believe I seen Grady from Sanford also, stood in the ticket line next to him but I didn't understand a damn word he said.
Wait, wait, pull up and wait, finally get weighed, offload my fortune, get back in line to weigh again, wait, wait, pull up and wait. Get weighed and go stand in line with the rest of the scrap people. Not much room in the little office and I hope some of them fellers took their earnings and purchased some soap and deodorant. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/sick.gif One of the fellers with prison tats said, "DUDE! I know you from somewhere"!! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/doh.gif I said, yeah, I been here a few times. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
One very large black man wedged his way in the door to soak up some of the almost A/C and made his way over to the box fan all the while shuckin and jivin with a couple other patrons. These folks must meet here often. They were quite schooled on what scrap brings the most and what areas of the County they shop for this stuff. Couldn't hardly turn around in there and biggun say's "shhheeeet, this is like being locked up mane", the prison tat feller says, sure does but you can walk yer ass on back out if you want. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/roll.gif
Finally got to be my turn to present my ticket and after a quick mash on the greasy azz thumb print thingy I was handed my 44 dollars and 80 cents for my 320lbs of precious scrap @ 14 cents a lb http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/newyear1.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/newyear1.gif
Now I know why people just dump shit on the side of the road http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
What a trip http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/sweating.gif
on side note - at least these folks were hustlin for a buck and not thieving it or sittin on the porch playin dominos, drinkin wine waitin for the welfare check http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif

I used to take the rotors and iron from work. I'd take a truck load down and come out with a couple hundred bucks! http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif Now they won't let me take it any more, it's theft, and I'm not a thief. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/wink.gif

Stomp, my mother has told me the same thing for years but I don't believe I could do anything like that. Before the email age I used to write her and my Grandparents letters quite a bit, you know the kind you have to put a stamp on and walk it to the mailbox.
I could only write about what's currently happening and real experiences, not any make believe stuff.
And.....when I start a project I keep my nose to the grind til it's done, spending that much time and thought at an idle would drive me nuts.
But thanks for the thumbs up my friend http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/smile.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif http://www.bassboatcentral.com/boardstuff2/beers.gif

Cork,,a book of short stories about your observations...Just type em up and when you have enough, put them all together. What's the harm, you might make a buck or two. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif Take a chance, think about it, what would it hurt. All they can say is no. Lots of publishers out there...I might be able to tell folks, I knew back when.. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/Laugh.gif
