Evinrude RAM Ficht - OIL?
Just bought a 2000 Stratos with a 200HP Ram Ficht, my question is what type of oil should i use, the previous owner said he always used the "Ficht" oil...never owned a 'Rude before, so never realized there was such a thing http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/ohwell.gif Where do you buy it?

Most of us use XD-50 w/ Seafoam or straight XD-100, both are Evinrude oils. The Xd-50 is a semi-synthetic oil, the Xd-100 is a full synthetic oil. If you can contact the person you bought it from, ask him if he ever de-carboned the motor!

okay, i'm not much of a mechanic....but what are the advantages of decarboning the motor? i know he did a good job with maintenance on this motor but not sure about this...is this one of the Ficht recommendations?

Carbon is an enemy to pretty much any outboard, it is not a FICHT thing. You can run a search and you will find numerous post's about carbon. One thing you want to make sure is that the spark plugs are indexed properly. You can find information on that on the one stop shopping post at the top of this board.
