09 250 HO ETEC questions

considering one of these on a boat i am looking at. what can you tell me about these. How do they stack up to the 250 pro xs on speed, fuel consumtion, hole shot, and dependability? I heard a tale that if i do buy one of these and I have to have warranty work, that when i bring it make sure its got a BRP prop on it or they will not cover is this true? What kind of oil will i have to burn in it and how much does it cost? I usually use pennzoil premium plus and have for years and love it so will i have to change? thanks for your input just trying to get educated before jumping back to the blue side!

Doug, I am running an 09 250 Ho...had an 08 also.Won't run anything else and I have owned Mercs and Yammies.Have not had any problems what so ever.You will need to run Evinrude's XD100..cost is anywhere from 32-40 dollars a gallonbut believe me,it lasts a Long time.Midrange is awesome and topend is even better.Never heard of BRP not warrantying their motors because of what prop you are running.I'm currnetly running a 27 Temepst but have tried many others.Feel free to IM for any info you may want.

You do not have to run the BRP oil. You can run the Penzoil only I would run the 100% pure synthetic. I have a 2003 250 Rude and that is what I have run for a long tome with no problems. Good luck and yes it is much better than a Proxs.

You can have the motor set to either run on XD 100 only or set to run on any other oil, from what I have been told by several mechanics, most of the engines that have had problems have been using other oil, why risk it on a brand new motor? I can tell you from personal experience that the XD 100 leaves way less (none that I can see) residue on the inside of the prop after 30 hours. On my old merc that I ran cheap oil in the inside of the prop was covered in soot. Me personally, that expensive of a motor, it is not worth the risk.
During your first 30 hours (break in) you will burn a good bit of oil, after your 30 hours the oil consumption will drop significantly........

It's no longer a switchable option (oil setting) on the newer motors beginning '07/'08.

I hope it runs good! I dont have to be the fastest out there but if a merc on the same hull comes up i would like atleast comparible performance. some say it'll be better than the merc some say no. I have no clue!
