Property Tax and License Cost on Bass Boats in Texas?
I currently live in Kansas and have a 2005 1850 Ranger Reata. I'm considering moving to the Dallas area and was wondering about property tax and recurring license cost on my boat. My Ranger cost me $29K when I bought it a couple of years ago. I know that the property tax on homes is higher in Texas than Kansas but I have no idea about boats.

Texas does not have personal property taxes like Kansas. I'm from Shawnee Ks.
In texas you pay roughly $68 a year to register your car and something like that for a boat. It's nothing like the cost of Ks.
You'll have a bunch of extra money to go fishing...and lots of places to fish around Dallas.

Boat registration will run you $30 every 2 years if your boat is less than 16'. For 16'-26' it is $50 for 2 years. Trailer registration will run you $30-$40 a year.

One thing we forgot to tell you is that you register your boat with Texas Parks & Wildlife Dept and you register your trailer at the county courthouse where you register your vehicles.
When you register your boat, you'll need the title for the hull and motor. Here's some more links you may find handy.

Although we don't title boat trailers in TX, you will still need this form to move it to TX and register it.

I think the magic number for trailer capacity is 4500 lbs. I've been looking on the web, but cant find it. Anyway, you want the trailer capacity to be below that figure. If I find the info I'm looking for, i'll post it up.
