I have a 1999 90HP Johnson. The prop shaft seals have been torn up by fishing line and need to be replaced. Is there any way to take them out or pull the shaft for that matter without dropping the entire lower unit?

*Assuming the gearcase design is similar to my 150*
You can replace the seals with the gearcase in place. Just remove the prop and you'll see the bolts you remove to pull out the bearing housing.
*I don't know for sure it's the same, but no one has answered your question and I thought I'd try. I imagine it's pretty much the same though.

There were 2 bolts, 1 on each side of the prop shaft. I removed them and each had a metal clip underneath that I could pop out but then I dont know where to go from there??????
You gonna have to get a shaft puller oe make up one with all thread..
Are there any bolts inside that bearing carrier or just pull the prop with a prop puller?
Nope get some 3/8" threaded rods and some large washers and jam nuts. Borrow a harmonic ballancer puller or buy one and pull the carrier out. You'll need a seal puller and seal driver also gasket sealer for the sides of the seals when you knock them in and make sure the lips are 180* opposed. Drive them in and coat everything going back in with Triple guard grease.
