1986 150 johnson vro

Hi I got 1986 150 johnson vro It has the vro hooked up but the tank was empty so I hooked up a tank of premixed to it. I started up and it ran but the port side cylinder bank had intermitent spark on all three cylinders. I filled the tank up with some oil and then it had good consistent spark on that bank agian. Does the vro cut out that side of the motor if it is not getting oil is my question or do I need to look at the cdi box or trigger?

The lack of oil would prevent you from exceeding 2500 rpm. I can't remember off the top of my head which cyliders would be shut down.
