MOTOR TURNING WHILE TRAILERING

Not sure if this is a transom saver or motor issue but while towing my Alumaweld H51 with 90hp Merc and using an Extreme Max 3001 transom saver my motor moves/flops from to one side to the other when turning. I had a square tube Atwood on this motor before and it did the same thing which makes me wonder if maybe my motor is the issue. The boat does steer very easily which I like but I’m wondering if the motor pivot tube may be the cause. I’ve had several boats/motors and never seen this happen before. Any ideas or experience with this?

Traditional cable steering allows this. Hydraulic steering with clips keeps the engine centered.

The clips for hydraulic steering might work with cable steering and are cheap so worth a try.

My last one was an Atwood and I like the swiveling pads much better than the rubber V on the Extreme the square tubing on the Atwood was split at every corner.

Look at Motor Mates. That is what I have for my Yamaha 90 and the way it is designed, it keeps my motor pretty much locked in so that it can not be turned.

+1 on Motormate. Ends problems described.

Clips achieve the same thing as a motor mate. Have been using clips for 20 years and hydraulic steering and cable steering.

Lock-n-haul makes a nice unit that eliminates the flop, and is very reasonably priced.

Hello, are you guys saying motor mates works on Mercury 75/90/115 Hp 4 stroke outboards with cable steering? No side to side movement of the motor? The clips included are for hydraulic steering. Are you guys saying the clips aren’t necessary to prevent side to side movement of outboard motor since 75-115 Hp mercury outboards usually come with cable steering?

If you have an area on both sides of the steering to add "clips" these are most likely to long for your application but can be cut to fit. Inexpensive fix for your problem?

I turn my motor all the way to port and the clips fit over my turning rod.
