Overheating Prevention Tips for Long-Idling Tournaments ?
Guys, i'm close to committing to a boat that runs a 2002 225 Evinrude HO engine. The engine was installed in 2005 (leftover) new, blew due to fuel injector failure and rebuilt ( didn't replace/havetoreplace powerheads ).. engine has 5 hours on it.
I idle ALOT.... one area i fish requires me to come in from a long run (60 mins) and then idle in for 25 minutes thru a no wake zone... then i idle from spot to spot about half the day and then at end of day idle back out for 25 mins... and then make a long 60 min run back to weighin.
Here is my question.
Are there things i can do to the engine thru oil or fuel additives to ensure that the engine doesn't run too lean as the Rude is notorious for having issues with at low RPMs ? Would it hurt me to add some oil into my fuel to override the lean oil injection at low temps ? Does Sea Foam help reduce heat ?
Comments, help ?

Do not add oil to the fuel on a DI. The best thing you can do is run xd-100 oil. After a long idle like you're referring to I would put it on plane and let her cruise a little before WOT. JMHO Get a printout of the temps and make sure the head temps are up to par, as idleing a lot will wear the plugs.
