Does anyone know how the Older 99/2000 Johnson 225 HO compare to the newer 2003 and up Evinrude 225 HO and etecs.
I know the Johnson HO was carbeurated and eats up more gas but how do they compare horsepower and performance wise? Mainly top end.

Tony,
I've have a 2000 Javelin Renegade 20 and back in February I replaced the original Johnson 225 HO with a 2003 DI 225 HO Evinrude. The DI Evinrude is literally 3x more fuel efficient and the low torque unreal. I had to jump up to a 28 Raker (used a 26 on the Johnson) and I picked up at about 3 mph on the top end. Hope this helps.

DITTO!! If ya can get your hands on a 02 or later DI HO go for it!!
Had a dealer tell me they dino'd a 2001 225HO Johnson (3.0L) at 240 hp. The word is the 3.3L 225HO is a little stronger at 245-247???
Thanks for the info guys. I will probobly just wait for a good deal to come around on a 02 or newer 225HO. Wanted to be certain on the performance diff. though.
There may be a couple mph difference in top end, and low-end grunt. The DFI is definatley more effecient. The things the 3 liter Carbs have is simplicty & reliability. Proven design and cheaper to fix.
They are strong runners http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif
