Re: 2000 225 evinrude ficht (barrysbassworld)
WOW!! Ya went against what everyone told ya, and only a few posts and you're here and bashing!!! I know of 98-99 model. believe it or not 150 hp fichts tearing the water up right now!!!! The Ficht is what gave us the fuel saving , torque monster engines we're enjoying to day. What happened to it?? Did you run the good oil in it?? etc!!!
Re: 2000 225 evinrude ficht (Bassmeister)
how often do we hear "it blew up, crap Ficht" without knowing the full story? like did it have Oil, was there an alarm, was the Water pump replaced in the last 5 years? all sorts of things happen for a variety of reasons, not too many happen because of bad design (but some do)

Re: 2000 225 evinrude ficht (tdt91)
I have a 2000 200 ficht , bought new, and have had at least one major problem with it every season. It has spent at least a month in the repair shop each year. Always well maintained- this is the most frustrating motor I've ever had. This season it takes about 40 attempts to get it started and the techs have given up- they can't figure it out and don't weant to waste any more time trying (even at $100 per/hour). They tell me it's time to replace and even though i hate the expense, I won't miss this motor. Marty http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/mad.gif

sounds like you need a new mechanic. there is alot of these engines still running around and running good.

Re: 2000 225 evinrude ficht (barrysbassworld)
Just out to prove something? The engine is Crap or you don't know Crap ? A guy that knows nothing about the history of outboards, proper care and maintenance, operation parameters, probably that you have to fill the oil tank, check for telltale water flow warm the engine before full range wot operation at night.. or any time....WHAZ up DUDE...it only cost you the price of a 9 year old motor, the collective parts inventory are probably worth more than the retail value of the motor when running. Take it apart, learn something about it and what went wrong, sell the good parts AND get over it and start off right next time.......G
Re: 2000 225 evinrude ficht (barrysbassworld)
Also have a 2000 225 Ficht, in 3 years I have taken the cowling off to put plugs in it. However it's only been in the water 4 times THIS WEEK! so maybe I don't test it. Sorry bout your problem but I am very happy with mine.
PS I guess if mine had dropped down to 5000 rpm from WOT I would have shut it down to know why b4 loud noises occured
Re: 2000 225 evinrude ficht (barrysbassworld)
I still say its CRAP!! Evinrude is lucky to have made it through the ficht years. I'm sure there are a few good ones out there runnung, but then again theres a few yugos running too. The computer burned up and took out the oil injection in which burned up a cylinder. Beleive i or not, I just put another BOMB on there.
A 2001 Rude Ram! It will b for sale soon once I break this one in.

I have heard alot of bad news about the ficht. So, I bought one and have loved it. I probably put 20 hours on it and smoked it last night. Everybody's right, it's a boat anchor. </TD></TR></TABLE>
You DID have it inspected by a trained tech before you bought an 8 year old piece of machinery, didn't you????????
Re: 2000 225 evinrude ficht (SEAHORSE)
The motor has been rebuilt. It has only 2 hours on it that I put on yesterday.
So far so good.
