Ross Barnett Reservoir in Early June?
Heading to Ross Barnett for a week of fishing Jun 6 - 9. Haven't fished there since I left in 1995. Anyone have any ideas on the pattern for that time of year and the best locations to fish (Pelahatchie Bay, above hwy 43, etc) and recommendations on baits to throw, colors, etc?

Pads and frogs. The thicker the better. Put in at tommies and go north if you see pads (you will) fish em. My favorite frog is spro junior in Black/White Lots of times you will catch schoolers bunched uo in ares and you can whack smaller fish, but be ready, cause 5-6-7 lb'ers aint uncommon!!!!!!!!I prefer the pads in flats close to deep water. Hope this helps. Dont be afraid of water 2' deep.

How is the water level?
Is the Pearl River taking on water and flooding like the Mississippi and Yazoo rivers?
Re: Ross Barnett Reservoir in Early June? (BrownTrout)
Lake level is 297.2 summer pool is 297.5 the lake is perfect with a little current and good color, the miss river flooding will not affect the rez at all.

WOW took 18 lb to get a check saturday on the rez. That's pretty strong for anywhere in the country.
Re: Ross Barnett Reservoir in Early June? (Derek B)
Barnett is a very strong lake despite intense fishing pressure........with a little better management than PRVWSD, it would be incredible. The list of "sins" that PRVWSD commits on this lake is long and distinguished.

Derek,
Do you have a link to the tournament and/or the weigh-in results showing details?

Got the frog on the pads covered with the SPRO Jr.
I also like to throw jigs and plastics. What color jigs? What color worm and lizard?

And for you Jim, I usually only throw Black/blue jigs but everynow and then I'll throw a green pumpkin type color or brown, but I don't fish jigs a ton anymore so maybe someone else will chime in. http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/embarassed.gif
For plastics: I normally throw baby brush hogs, YUM wooly bugs(or something similar), and senkos normally green pumpkin, pumpkin seed, watermelon seed, sometimes junebug(I like the one with lots of red flake in it I can't think of the name). I also throw baby bass on my senkos and it does good.
For flukes and the like normally shad colored for me sometimes a green(watermelon or green pumpkin).
Re: Ross Barnett Reservoir in Early June? (mgrice1981)
Doesn't look like too much has changed since I left there in 1995. My favorite lures back then were black/blue jigs, green lizards and Fire & Ice or Junebug worms.
Good info. Counting the days between now and June 6. Thanks again http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
