I bought a 2003 Ranger 520vx with an 03 Evinrude 225 DI low hours 1 owner boat.XD 50 has been used since new,plugs changed yearly and water pump every other year. with the last time this past spring 08.Any tips you guys can give with the motor.I.ve had EFI 200's and carb 200's but never a DI motor.Thanks for your help!!
run ring free or carbon guard with your gas & de carb every 80 to 100 hrs. if you run the more expensive xd-100 fully synthetic oil you want have to do the items listed previously. those are great engines
Only other thing I can add is don't spend alot of time idling around the DI's will load up the plugs over time with excessive idle speeds. They like to run!!
I run the xd-100 in my 03 DI exclusively and it runs even better than it did on the xd-50. It seems the plugs last longer than before, never any problems in cold weather. If you fish in the winter you need to change to 100 anyway for better oil flow, sometimes the 50 will give false no oil warnings. If budget constraints don't allow year'round 100 use run the 50 till it turns cold then run 100 till it gets above 40*. But I would still decarb once a year.
