Bronze ring inside 9,9 Johnson carb..
Sorry for my poor English...
I,ve bought two months ago 9,9 Johnson 1988y. ( Belgium)
Because engine was not in use during two years I,ve cleaned carb ,changed oil in gearbox etc..
But... inside carb in the end of throat from outlet side ,there is some bronze or cupper ring changing throat diameter from 21 mm to 15 (aprox).ring is 1,3 mm long . What is it??? on the pictures of carbs ( OMC official parts catalog) there is not any ring...in any kinds of 9,9 carbs ( there are two kinds of carbs for 9,9 and 15 HP only but different is inside carb body (different diameter) not by any rings...
There is a two plastic cover kind carb ( like in models from 1989) and mark on body:6KW.

Re: Bronze ring inside 9,9 Johnson carb.. (wejsunek)
That is probably a horsepower restrictor that was used in the European market. Usually there will be a certification tag somewhere on the motor telling that. Yours says 6KW which is 8hp. Are there any lakes around with restrictions on engine size?
In America, there were restrictors made for the 18-20hp motors to make them 15hp. I think there were some others, but I can't remember them at the moment.
Re: Bronze ring inside 9,9 Johnson carb.. (SEAHORSE)
thank You for Your answer... there is any notice in ( under cover) or on the engine body ... but.. because engine was not running well at low speed ..( too much petrol by my mind ) and stooped after few minutes cause sparks was flooded I,ve decided (yesterday) removed this ring..( softly by hummer and screw on the wood place)and.....now my engine is like with another new spirit.. all is ok.....slow and fast running fantastic... and to my astonish , without any carb regulate
Why OMC don.t inform about this procedure?
