Traverse City suggestions/tips
If the weather cooperates, the wife and I are thinking about heading from
our vacation lake in Ludington to the Traverse City area for a overnight trip. Does anyone have a nice little place that might be a little less expensive to stay, instead of right in TC ?? Also, if you were heading there this week, what waters would you fish for smallies? Thanks in advance for any help !!!!!!  Jeff

If you are going to the west bay, you could check out the Red Lion Inn in Sutton's Bay. Public launch is just a couple miles south of there. I've had little luck on smallies there so I'm afraid I can't help you too much. It WILL be busy, though!

I'm heading up there for a week starting Sunday. I will give a report when I get back. Heard the big smallies are eating!

My father in law just went out on GT Bay on this past sunday. They caught 38 smallies and the biggest one was a 6lb 2oz slob. They are definately eating right now!

Awesome. East or West Bay; I usually go West, but............

The smallmouth fishing was ABSOLUTELY incredible. I caught my new personal best at 5lbs 3oz. I also had 2 days where I caught 50+ in 3 to 4 hours. What an amazing fishery.

Awesome, and good blog.
Did you launch on the East Bay? If so, what launch did you use? I was going to launch at the north end of Old Mission on the east side, but it was small, fairly rocky and relatively unprotected.

I think Elk Rapids is the best place to launch on the East bay..... http://www.bassboatcentral.com/smileys/thumbsup2.gif
Really nice big launch, You can tie off there half way through the day and grab some lunch and it is halfway up the bay if something blows in and you have to make a run for the launch... http://xs-s.com/zf/images/smile/emthup.gif

Mike, Did you hit some of the inland lakes in the area on the windy days?? There is some great fishing in that area on Charlevoix, Green, Duck, Long, Torch, etc...
That is one of the huge benefits of planning a vacation trip in the GTB area.....
