Re: in-land lake smallies (Wang)
it sounds like cass or orchard lake. try a drop shot rig and tube baits use very light line and just keep trying everyting in the tackle box
Re: in-land lake smallies (bob o)
I like tubes for deep water Smallies on Walloon Lake
Re: in-land lake smallies (Wang)
I have caught a few MONSTER 5lb+ smallies on Maceday in DEEP water drop shotting 4" Dingers or dragging Lunch Money tubes...
Re: in-land lake smallies (A Frayed Knot)
have you tried night fishing for these smallies? big thumper spinnerbaits and a swim shad on a bullethead jig? try these
Re: in-land lake smallies (karol)
Thanks for the replies... Yes it's Maceday and I have caught a bunch of five pounders, but there is some really big smallies in this lake. I have had absolutley no luck with tubes or rubber crawfish. I just started to get into drop shot so my question is when fishing deep water are you using electronics to find fish first or due you just find the steep ledges that fall into very deep water.
Re: in-land lake smallies (Wang)
You need to use your finder to spot either fish or balls of baitfish...If not it will be like trying to find a needle in a hay stack...
Don't be afraid to try jigging spoons and silver buddies in that deeper water.....
Remember those smallies will be up spawning soon...Smallmouth will spawn in water of various depths, I have heard reports of everything from 1 foot to 30 foot...I have had my best luck locating Reeds, Shellbeds, sandgrass, laydowns etc and starting my search from there....
I have done pretty well during the spawn targeting water on inland lakes from 3 foot out to around 9 foot....Sometimes just working a jerkbait or jerking a tube across large flats will get you bit if you are struggling locating beds....
There are some great fishing lakes in Oakland county....I wish I had more time to take advantage of lakes that are closer to home...
Now is the time to get out before all of the Jet Skiers and Wee boats hit the water..
