Reddy Heater Pro 200

I found this torpedo heater for sale around the corner for dirt cheap. I knew it didn't work but I figured these are pretty easy to work on. I took the whole thing apart, replace the fuel lines, clean the nozzle, replace the filter, and replace the pump rotor. Last I checked the pressure. I plugged it in and boom it fired right up.

I put the cover back on and it won't fire... take the cover off and it fired right up...

After fiddling around with it for a few days, I noticed that if I just lift the cover up an inch and turn it on it fires right up and I can lay the cover back down.

Any suggestions?

Why won’t it fire with the cover on? You should find out if it’s no fire,no fuel,fan won’t turn or what? I have one of those. You should be able to hear each of these actions as they each make a unique sound,figure out which it is and go from there. Most likely when you put the cover on,it is causing a short that is preventing one of these three from happening. I can tell you it’s important to have the igniter(sparkplug in my old one) oriented so the fuel plume is directly onto the spark. It must also have air to fire so make sure the filter isn’t clogged. When you turn it on,even if it’s not firing,you should be able to see the fuel mist exiting the hot end,if not,it’s most likely a spark issue.

I have fuel spray, spark, and fan with the cover off and on.

The heater also works with the cover on only after I run it with the cover off for 5 min

Try removing the filter element,cover on and see if it works.

Is the cover grounding out the spark?

No, it is sparking perfectly well with the cover on

like Rip mentioned, sounds like an oxygen problem.

Nozzle is worn out. Putting the cover on increases air flow and it won’t light.

It’s too big from wear. Need to replace it. My guess anyway. Your money so it’s Easy for me to spend :laugh:

I've been noticing that Trend around here lately...

Had one that the fan wouldn't spin with the cover .

Is there a cut-off switch that gets activated when the cover is put on, could be broken

On some models they have a photo cell. Although I do not own one, it could be possible the added light with the cover off could make the photocell believe all is good until it ignites, then after ignition enough light is emitted to keep it running. A quick search shows they are less than $20. Please let us know what you find and best of luck.

I'm leaving more towards CatFans idea. All other systems are working properly, I see spark with the cover on and I also see spark with the cover off. The unit fired on and off all by itself on the thermostat today without any problems at all. That was with the cover on, but it was a relatively warm 40s day.

The photo sensor turns the unit off if there is no flame seen. I can bypass that by using a LED flashlight. But it still doesn't make the flame ignite.

I can literally lift the cover about a half an inch after I plug the unit in and it'll light immediately then I just drop down the top cover and it runs like normal.

I'm thinking as it gets cold out the fuel gets harder to atomize and if the nozzle is worn maybe the spray pattern is not correct.

I'll take it apart and clean it and if it doesn't make a difference then I'll buy a new one. Cleaning it is free

Take a look at some YouTube videos...there are plenty on your model heater. I've had real good luck with fixing chit around the house from YouTube vids. You need to pick and choose the vid that works best for your headache. I have found some also lead you to the more difficult method, so be prepared to think for yourself. :thumb up2:

Any luck getting it working? I’m working on one of mine tonight and thought about this thread. Using my 110 to keep the shop warm while I work on the 150. Gave $25 for this thing 3 years ago, and it’s already acting up :laugh:

I took it apart one more time and clean the nozzle with some carb cleaner. I put it back together. And again it didn't turn on right away but I did the trick where I lifted the lid barely a quarter inch and it fired right up. It doesn't run perfect but it runs pretty damn good. After I fired up the first time and set the thermostat around 50. It goes on and off by itself without me touching it. This 200 is much more thirsty than my 55. But it sure cranks out the Heat
