My motor is overheating - 2006 Yamaha Vmax carb

Hello about two weeks ago I was running the motor and my overheat alarm went off. So I waited about 20 min and I was able to run back to the launch going slowly. I thought it was due to having my motor trimmed up halfway. Fast forward to today and we ran the boat just fine for a few minutes. The second time we went on a run my alarm went off. At this point I used the trolling motor until we were getting ready to go home and took our time getting back to the launch. The water pressure when I gunned it was 25 and up so it seems to be fine. Does anyone have an idea what could be causing the alarm to go off? I am really concerned now.

Check the thermostats. One may not be opening.

    Update:

I got the boat back from the dealer. They found the wrong spark plugs installed, the water pump that was previously installed on the motor was not done correctly so they rebuilt the pump and they also found a charred exhaust gasket that was causing the exhaust to not leave the motor properly. After doing these steps they ran the motor in a tank and overheating was gone. I will take it out a couple of time in the upcoming weeks and hopefully this is the end to my drama.

I'm having a similar problem. If I run it hard for any distance my alarm goes off. So far the dealer has went threw water pump kit, sensors, and now removing power head and replacing some gasket. Waiting on parts again, I hope this gets it running again, I am about to forget where the lake is.............

Definitely keep me updated on the status of your boat and I will do the same when I take it out in the next couple of weeks.

Have they look at the thermostat? Did they run the motor after they fixed those parts?

They said they have looked at all the basics like that, and yes they have run motor after each time they replace/fix something.

did you touch the motor at both heads with your hand? water coming out of the indicator? motors can run hot due to combustion temps too high. anyone with diagnostics can go to history. Thanks for a reply.

Has anyone checked if the water on the exhaust/dump side is not restricted? Dirt, sludge and mud dabbers can do strange things.

I don't know. They said they have checked all the basics and went up from there. I need the motor fairy to tap it with her wand and make it all better, so I can get back in the water.

Did that main mechanic end up looking at the motor? Do you think it just might be the sensor?

Poppit valve? Had my 04 overheating and the tech replaced the water pump. Still had a problem, so I cleaned out the poppit valve and scrubbed it good. Made sure to install it the correct way (was backwards originally). Overheat problem gone.
