    Question lower unit weight

    1998 150 Saltwater Series II.

I plan to change the water pump this winter. I've read the diy's and it seems straight forward. How much does the lower unit weigh?

    Thanks, Wally "FishnFed"

Thanks. I'm going to do it as soon as I have a couple or three hours to spare.

fyi Takes 30 min if you already know where all the bolts are.

Wally, take the prop off before you do it. the Lower weighs about 40 pounds no prop drained. Trim the motor up as far as it will go then drop the lower after pulling the prop. While you are at it drain the lower unit fluid and check for either milky fluid or burned smelling fluid. Milky is from water, burned is from not changing regularly and possible bearing burn. If the motor has been in salt at all, get a can of PB blaster and spray all the lower unit bolts, remove the black rubber plug on the back of the mid section and spray that bolt too. That one releases the torque tab.

Make sure you get all the bolts and nuts off. They have one up under the trim tab I usually for get it and can't figure out why it won't drop
