Minn kota talon or power pole

What is the better choice? Not sure which would be better. Any pros or cons for both?

After installing both products for the last two years, I'm still not sure which one I like best.

Mr T. How hard is it for the person in the back of the boat to cast with them sticking up? I'm afraid it would get in my way.

I just wished the great attributes of each would be combined into one ........ that way there would be a hands down winner instead of a compromise between the two.

I've never had any complaints about them. Lots of complements though (and questions about what they are)

Does the power pole ever get stuck in mud and if so how to you pull it? I have the talon and occasionally I need to use a wrench to pull it up when rocking the boat won't work or the water is too shallow.

One advantage to the Talon that is never mentioned is that, unless you have two Talons or Power Poles mounted, when there is even the slightest amount of wind, the boat with the PP will swing around in a larger arc than one with a Talon as the Talon is less than a foot away from the transom while the PP anchors into the bottom six or more feet away, depending on the size PP that is mounted.

Mounted on the same bracket,a 10' Powerpole will be 5' farther than a Talon when it's at 1/2 travel, and that distance is reduced as it's raised or lowered. I wouldn't base my purchase on that.

    "5' farther than a Talon"
That 5' equates to 10' if the wind turns the boat 180 degrees.

You positioned wrong in the first place if your boat is turned ALL the way around. But feel free to buy whatever YOU want,i never once said a Talon wasn't good.I'll take a Powerpole.

Mike, I agree with you that both are good products and neither of us have a dog in the fight. The point I was making to the uninitiated who are asking questions about the differences between the two was that, if you are fishing off the front of the boat when you engage either SW anchor and the wind is blowing in your face and turns the boat around, you will swing further away with the PP. I encounter this situation more times than others in that I also fish saltwater and the tides can also turn the boat around, causing one to have to fish from the transom. It's of no consequence if you have two. Unfortunately I can only afford one for now.

Remember this also going under a low bridge power pole never have get up out of the seat just drop them keep going with talon you gotta get up and lay it down if you have the right bracket to start with.

    From their web site -
Q: What should I do if my Power-Pole is stuck in the deployed position?
A: If your Power-Pole will not retract for any reason, simply drive toward shallow water, and the pole protector valve will allow the anchor to stow. If the anchor still will not retract, please contact a member of our technical support staff for assistance at 813.689.9932 option 2.

hope it is not after 17:00 hours and you are not already in shallow water with an outgoing tide
