1996 EZ Loader trailer for Stratos bass boat

My boat trailer was made by EZ Loader. It has a torsion arm axle with pressed-on spindles. The axle is actually welded to the frame. I keep having problems with bearings going out.

Does anyone know of someone in the Houston, Texas area that can help me out? I have gone round and round with EZ Loader and I'm tired of wasting my time.

    Thank you,
    Rayzor

I had the bearings go out on a similar trailer. I called EZ loader, and they gave me the info for rigid hitch to get replacement parts. One of the parts that I had to ger replaced was a "spindle sleeve" that the grease seal rides on the spindle at. The lady I spoke with said if you don;t replace those when doing a repair, that the grease seals and bearings will not last very long.

Have you replaced that? Are the inner bearings a bigger size than the outer bearings? I would suspect that it is something like my EZ Loader trailer with a Reliable rubber torsion axle.

That's a link to the wear ring that goes where the grease seal rides on the spindle.

I've talked to EZ Loader (and probably this guy) many times. I have been sent all over the USA. If I absolutely have to, I'll call them in the future.

    Thank you,

Re: 1996 EZ Loader trailer for Stratos bass boat (jaredpointer)

I have some wear rings ordered for each spindle. These can't by any means hurt but I don't really know if it will be a cure-all.

I just realized that there is a trailer shop down the road that I am going to ask if they know anyhting about torsion arm axles. Matybe they can offer some help.

I'll post later with any new info.

Re: 1996 EZ Loader trailer for Stratos bass boat (Rayzor)

I recieved my parts from Rigid Hitch the other day. I put a wear ring on the passenger side and packed the bearings. I then pulled the driver side and found out that there was already a wear ring there. Packed grease and re-installed. Due to my own error, the spindle nuts, spindle washers, and the spindle nut lock shields were the wrong size. I ordered 1" when they should have been the 13/16". I re-ordered the right ones, got them promptly, and will install them this week.

I read an installation guide from Reliable that said one of the things that people do wrong is over-tighten the spinlde nuts. I am hoping like @$#! that I have corrected that this go around and these bearings will last.

I will post again if there are further problems. I thank everyone for all of their help.

There was your problem. There was no wear ring on the passenger side. From speaking with the folks at rigid hitch, the grease seal will not last long if the wear ring is not there. And yes, don't tighten the spindle nuts too tight. If yours is like mine, you have the little aluminum locker that goes over the nut and then the cotter pin slides in and locks the spindle nut.

Glad you got it on the road to recovery. :)
